Seaview Renegades Instrument & Equipment Care Guide
Proper care of instruments and equipment ensures longevity, optimal performance, and safety for all members. All members are expected to follow these guidelines for Marching Band and Performing Arts instruments and equipment.
General Guidelines for All Instruments & Equipment
Handle With Care – Always handle instruments and equipment gently. Avoid dropping, throwing, or bumping them.
Clean Regularly – Wipe down instruments after each use to remove dirt, sweat, or moisture. Use appropriate cleaning materials for each instrument type.
Storage – Store instruments in a dry, safe, and temperature-controlled environment. Avoid leaving instruments in vehicles, direct sunlight, or damp areas.
Personal Responsibility – Each member is responsible for the instrument or equipment assigned to them. Report any damage immediately to your instructor or coordinator.
Transport – Use proper cases, straps, or covers when transporting instruments to and from rehearsals or performances.
Labeling – Clearly label personal instruments with the member’s name to prevent loss or mix-ups.
Repairs – Never attempt major repairs yourself. Report issues to the instructor or designated maintenance personnel.
Marching Band Equipment
Brass & Woodwind Instruments
Clean mouthpieces daily with warm water and a soft brush.
Oil valves and lubricate slides regularly (as per instrument type).
Check reeds on woodwinds and replace as needed.
Do not leave instruments unattended on the field during practice or performance.
Percussion Instruments
Keep drum heads tight and properly tuned.
Wipe down cymbals and drums after use to prevent corrosion.
Store sticks, mallets, and drum pads in designated containers.
Avoid hitting drums excessively hard to prevent cracking or denting.
Uniform Accessories & Miscellaneous Gear
Keep gloves, hats, plumes, and sashes clean and stored properly.
Avoid placing heavy objects on top of instruments or uniform pieces.
Performing Arts Equipment
Stage Band Instruments
Follow the same care rules as marching band instruments.
Ensure amplifiers, keyboards, and electronic equipment are turned off when not in use.
Cables and cords must be coiled neatly and stored safely to prevent damage.
Cultural Drumming Instruments
Store drums in a dry area to prevent warping or cracking.
Wipe drum shells and heads after use.
Avoid exposing drums to extreme heat or moisture.
Dance, Drama, and Poetry Equipment
Props, costumes, and set pieces must be handled gently.
Clean costumes according to care instructions and store in designated garment bags.
Microphones, sound equipment, and stage lighting must be handled only by trained personnel.
Additional Reminders
Never share mouthpieces without cleaning them first.
Avoid food or drinks near instruments and equipment.
Always return instruments and equipment to the designated storage area after use.
Failure to properly care for instruments or equipment may result in disciplinary action.
